My Journey:

After working on WordPress for about 5 years, I came across an article that sparked my interest in PHP and its potential for customizing WordPress CMS code. I took a crash course on PHP in December 2022 and soon got involved in a project that put my new skills to the test.

The Challenge:

A colleague’s online store, built with Laravel framework, was in trouble. The developer had exploited the client’s ignorance, demanding payments without receipts or confirmation from third-party providers. My task was to reconfigure the website on a new hosting service and domain.

The Problems:

I faced four main challenges  with this project;

1. Database connection issues

2. Admin dashboard 404 errors

3. Payment gateway and transaction malfunctions

4. Analytics not working properly

How I Solved the Problems:

1. Ensured the developer was fully paid for their work

2. Studied the code and ran debugging to identify errors

3. Successfully reconfigured the .env file for easy server and database connection

4. Fixed routing and HTTP response functions for proper page interaction with the database

5. Collaborated with an expert to ensure security and assess potential errors

6. Worked on integrating payment gateway API to the website to enable seamless transactions

Lessons Learned:

1. Importance of ethics and value in client relationships

2. Need for proper contracts and clear communication

3. Patience, focus, and attention to detail are crucial

4. Effective collaboration and teamwork are essential

5. Continuous research and problem-solving skills are vital
